Teaching & Modeling Collaboration
Students will encounter a world that needs collaboration and the ability to revise their thinking based on new information. For this reason, the students in the MakerSpace classroom are taught the art of collaboration and revision of design through modeling, discussions, and self reflection. Collaboration expectations are set for what it looks, sounds and feels like when done well. This helps develop student's ability to identify good collaboration in the classroom.
Each day that students collaborate they self-assess on how they completed 10 essential steps of working together. This self reflection, followed by feedback from a teacher helps to grow these skills over time and allow students to become self-aware of how their actions effect a group. Students see the benefits of being a good collaborator and how their designs can improve with the input and assistance of others.
